Unsuccessful Bidding:
Glenn Maxwell (Australia – capped):
Glenn Maxwell would have been an ideal fit for CSK’s setup, given his exceptional ability against spin and his handy off-spin bowling. The bidding war initially kicked off between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), but SRH bowed out early.
Subsequently, a fierce contest unfolded between CSK and PBKS, with CSK pushing hard to secure him. However, PBKS ultimately claimed Maxwell for INR 4.20 crores, leaving CSK to reluctantly step away as Maxwell returned to his former team.
Tushar Deshpande (India – capped):
Tushar Deshpande was one of CSK’s standout bowlers in the previous edition, known for his wicket-taking ability, skill with the new ball, and effectiveness in the slog overs.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) aggressively pursued him in the auction and eventually secured his services for INR 6.50 crores. CSK made a strong effort to reacquire him, bidding up to INR 6.25 crores, but ultimately had to step back due to budget constraints.
Liam Livingstone (England – capped):
Liam Livingstone would have been an excellent addition to CSK’s lineup, thanks to his explosive batting and ability to bowl both off-spin and leg-spin effectively. His bowling variations would have been particularly impactful on the turn-friendly Chepauk pitches.
However, his price quickly soared beyond CSK’s budget. With several slots still to fill at that stage of the auction, CSK had no choice but to let go of yet another top-quality player in the final moments.
